Geoff Weatherford (geoffw)  > Colorado Trail Hiking > Lake Katherine Trail, Mt Zirkel Wilderness, CO July 8, 2005
This hike took place in the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness area of Colorado. Specifically, the Lake Katherine trail and then branching off that to continue up to the continental divide. Please go to my trail blogging site (opens a new window) for a full description of the trip.

Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > This is a pullout just west of Walden, CO on county road 12W. I stopped to get a good view of the Zirkel Wilderness area in the distance.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Looking at the southern end of the Zirkel wilderness area. Somewhere there is Rabbit Ears pass where the Hwy 40 crosses over the continental divide heading west to drop into Steamboat Springs.

Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > The very northern section of the Zirkels. This photo also captures a good chunk of North Park which is surrounded on all sides by mountains. A very neat place (ummmm, well, it does get a little chilly in the winter : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > OK. I took the prior 3 photos and created a panaroma photo. Not too bad considering I've only been shooting my first digital camera for only a week or so.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Looking back east towards Walden, CO. An extremely small, but very friendly, town. When you pass through, please top up your gas tank and take advantage of the local eating establishments. You also might want to walk the main street down town and visit some of the small shops. Heck, stop into the post office and say HI to the employees. All really nice people. You can make out the mountains behind them which contain the Rawah Wilderness Area.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > OK. I'm getting closer to the mountains. I "think" that the area I'm heading for is right in the middle of this photo. Looks good to me : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > That's where I'm headed. The ranch is called the "Lone Pine Ranch" and, interestingly enough the trail I hike up the next day is called the Lone Pine Trail. Fascinating.
