Geoff Weatherford (geoffw)  > Fort Collins Colorado > Christmas Blizzard of 2006, Fort Collins, Colorado
On December 20, 2006 a rather severe Blizzard hit Colorado and surrounding states. It pretty much ground Colorado to a full stop. Please go to my trail blogging site (opens a new window) for a full description of the event.

Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > All right. We are going to be saved!
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Uh, rescuing a little old lady? Actually, no. One of their buddy's vehicle is stuck in the apartment's parking lot (guess he lives there). So, they arrived to dig him out (took around an hour, but they did get him out). Probably the most work they've done all year : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > A little later on that afternoon I dug out my truck. Most of the time was spent just digging out around the front tires to get the chains on. Here it is parked over in Sunflower's parking area. I had no place to go, but wanted to get it out of the way of the snow plows that would eventually (they finally got to us after dark) come plow out the apartment's parking lot.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Close up of the chains. So, I need another set of chains. Some better tires when I get these replace (mud and snow maybe). And lockers. If I'd been prepared, I could have made some money. There are some pretty upset people at the apartments concerning their inability to get out of the parking lot all day. Not sure where they would have gone : ) Well, that's not quite true, I guess some of them did miss out a day at work. Not sure what was open on Thursday, but I guess things like the hospital, etc., were still operating.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Some people decided that since the snow was available, enjoy it : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Anyway, about that intersection/street I kept saying "more later"? Well, it was now Friday and people are expecting to be able to drive where they want to. Problem is, NONE of the streets have been plowed yet (except the major ones). So, you saw a lot of intersections with this type of a problem. Yes, there are some people stuck up ahead (more than one). And what happens is that makes the people behind them stop and then realize they are stuck when they attempt to drive forward. That snow is a gooey mess. Doesn't matter if you have 4 wheel drive or not (some seem to do better than others).
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Here is a zoomed-in photo of people having fun : ) To be honest, I did not see anyone (not one single person) get upset the entire 2 days. They just got stuck, worked it out, then went on their way. When someone got stuck, all kinds of people (lots of teenagers) would grab shovels and go help them get unstuck and on their way. Pretty good. My back is still sore from helping a few people : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Not sure where they located the tractor, but whatever works : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Normal looking neighborhood street. By now there was usually a set of tracks down the middle of a street. You still saw people sliding off into the deep stuff and getting stuck. Delivery trucks didn't even need to slide off. They would just sit there with their wheels spinning.
