Geoff Weatherford (geoffw)  > Colorado Trail Hiking > Comanche Peak Wilderness, CO July 2, 2006
The Comanche Peak Wilderness area of Colorado is a almost perfect. Very close to Fort Collins, CO. Beautiful country. Limited numbers of people. Check out this photo gallery for all the high quality pictures for my hiking trip. And you can go to my trail blogging site (opens a new window) for a full description of the trip.

Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > My missed opportunity. While driving up the forest service road to the trailhead I came upon 2 wild turkey hens and around a dozen "chicks". Took me a while to pull over, get my camera, and then hike up the mountain trying to locate them and get a picture. Got close enough to get a poor quality picture (camera is not good enough to "spot focus" through the trees : ).
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Here is a "crop" of the part of the picture above that has the turkeys. They were moving pretty fast : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Anyway, I went on and got going on the trail. First couple of miles is just a steady uphill climb to the wilderness boundary.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > That's a view to the southwest (so, in Rocky Mountain NP; I think).
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Zoomed in a little on the same mountains.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Full zoom. I think there is another trail over on that ridge (with the snow and aspens) called the Zimmerman Trail. The trail I am on hooks into it. Could make a nice loop, but would be long. Reaching through some haze here and hand holding the camera at full zoom doesn't help either : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Just about at the top of the ridge (where the Wilderness boundary starts). Gee, clouds seem to be "thicker". Wonder what that means?
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Made it. The trail can be seen continuing on in the background to the left of the sign.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Little bit of close up of the same sign.
